Just thinking about this scene and how horrible it is once the context between Pierce and the Winter Soldier is fully known. But in the scene before this, when Steve and Natasha escape the missile blast, Rumlow calls someone to tell them to call in “the Asset”. Which means that Bucky was just sent to Pierce’s home. And being the programmed soldier he is, he just goes without any questions. So he’s just sitting there, waiting in Pierce’s kitchen for whatever is going to happen—whether that’s to receive a mission or to be told he’s done something wrong or whatever. You can even see that he’s nervous, you can see it in his eyes, in his body language, in his complete stillness (thank you, Sebastian, for your brilliant acting). Still, he just goes and sits there waiting for him. Doesn’t look around, doesn’t have a book or paper to read. He just sits and waits. Sits and waits until his handler comes to tell him what to do next.
